Congratulations to everyone on a successful 2017 for Metro PPA. Without you it could not have been done. Thank you Pam for being President and leading MPPA forward to new ideas.
Thank you to the board and members for all the support and hard work you did.
When I was asked to write a message as incoming president, I started asking what Metro PPA could do for it’s members. The real question is, what can we do for MPPA? Do we sit and stay where we are or continue to move forward into the future? The industry is changing on a daily basis. New technology and new ideas are becoming the forefront of photography. In order to be successful not only in business but in life, we must move forward to keep ahead. This is not only the goals I have for this year, but also questions that I feel must be asked.
Excite-Excitement is contagious. It spreads like a wildfire. When someone talks to me that is excited, I get the same way. We as members need to be excited about our group and what is going on. We get excited about sales, why not MPPA. We have a lot to offer our communities and our industry. They should know who and what we are! Now here is a tough question to ask, Where is the drive to make this group better? Where is the passion for our craft that has such a large impact on people? Are we truly HUNGRY?
Educate-The more you learn, the more successful you are. That applies not only to business, it also applies to family and personal life. The photography industry is ever changing! Now we have drone photography, phones that take amazing images, smoke bomb sessions and the list goes on. Les Brown once said, “If you are not willing to take a risk, then you can’t grow. If you can’t grow then you can’t become your best...” To be better for the industry and our clients, it is necessary to stay up on the latest trends and technology. Let’s take this a step further, are you willing to step out of your comfort zone and teach someone else to be the best they can be?
Elevate-MPPA is the group that should not only be encouraging our own members, but also those in our communities and industry. YES, we should be encouraging the other photography groups!! I am making it a goal this year to attend meetings of the other camera groups, to let them know we support them and appreciate their love of the craft. I encourage the members to do the same. A high tide raises ALL boats. From the Aircraft carriers to the little row boats.
President Kennedy gave a moving speech about the then new and risky task of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely back home. He said “..we nevertheless are required to make new efforts on our own. For while we cannot guarantee that we shall one day be first, we can guarantee that any failure to make this effort will make us last. We take an additional risk by making it in full view of the world, but as shown by the feat of astronaut Shepard, this very risk enhances our stature when we are successful. But this is not merely a race. Space is open to us now; and our eagerness to share its meaning is not governed by the efforts of others. We go into space because whatever mankind must undertake, free men must fully share.”
I appreciate all of you. MPPA is a great group, however we do have some challenges to overcome. There are risks and growing pains. We must push aside past issues to help our industry and ourselves to be the best we ALL can be, and drive MPPA to a successful, fulfilling future.
