Faces of MetroPPA - Jose Martinez

Jose Martinez

How long have you been creating images and a little about yourself?

I've been a professional photographer for about two years now. I started like most photographers taking pictures of my family; it morphed from there. I have lived in Oklahoma for most of my life. I have a beautiful wife and 4 children.

Which is your favorite lens? Why?

I mostly shoot landscapes, so the wider the better. My favorite lens is a 14-24 2.8. It allows me to capture images close to how we see them with our eyes. If I am shooting portraits, it would have the be my 85mm.

What kind of tools do you use for post-processing? Explain your work You wi How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?

I use sites like PPA and Youtube for online education. I also attend the monthly meetings of Metro PPA. I love seeing how other photographers approach the different aspects of this business. But the most important part of my education is going out and shooting. There is nothing in this world that can replace that.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I would have to be one that I recently just captured. It is an astrophotography shot that we took on a recent trip. Though the shot didn't come out exactly how I wanted it, It will always remind me of my experience on that trip.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

Invest more time in education, and don't be afraid to reach out to other photographers. I have found that people in our industry are more than willing to help each other out. You also might make a friend.

What lighting equipment do you take on a shoot?

I usually take an AD200 with a 35in a softbox and a Speedlight.

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

Very important! I use it to clean my images. I typically use it to remove distracting items from my images.

Name three things on your photography bucket list.

I would love to go shoot in Iceland, capture an image of the Northern Lights, and get published in a large publication.

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

Lots of leftovers.
