How long have you been creating images and a little about yourself?
I’ve been professionally shooting since 2006. Started in the photojournalism and sports genre and still continue to photograph that as well as portraits and commercial work.
Which is your favorite lens? Why?
70-200mm f2.8. Very versatile and ability to capture images in low light and keep some distance from subject. Great portrait lens.
What kind of tools do you use for post processing? Explain your work flow.
I use PhotoMechanic, Adobe Lightroom, and Photoshop.
For sports and photo journalistic work I upload images using PhotoMechanic so I can add captions, copyright, details of location, and get workable image previews in seconds to speed up getting images out and to newspapers and magazines via built in ftp.
How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?
I’m a member of MetroPPA, Professional Photographers of Oklahoma and Professional Photographers of America, National Press Photographers Association in addition to networking with local photographers. The education and resources from those organizations and groups is invaluable.
Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?
Capturing the May 20, 2013 Moore, Oklahoma tornado that made the cover of TIME magazine.
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
The lens is more important than the model of camera
What lighting equipment do you take on a shoot?
I use Canon speedlites for quick event and photojournalistic work and Interfit S1’s for portrait and commercial work.
How important is Photoshop in your final images?
Very important to get my vision of a commercial or editorial image I’m working on across to my viewer. Ability to adjust colors, edit out unwanted items in image and paint is invaluable.
Name three things on your photography bucket list.
Travel photography. Visit exotic places and famous sites like the Pyramids.
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
A website and/or blog you visit often?
I love to find photographers on Instagram and see their work and interact with them there.
